Thank you to all who participated!  A race recap is on the way!

2016 - Inaugural Soldier’s Pace Canicross Race – A 5k and Family Day brought to you by the Maine Veterinary Medical Center

Proceeds to benefit  K9s on the Frontline" nonprofit

Smiling Hill Farm

September 18th, 8a - 1:00p

The canicross will be a 5k timed race through sprawling Smiling Hills Farms, in Westbrook, Maine just minutes from Portland. The race and all proceeds are to benefit “K9s on the Front Line.” K9s on The Front Line is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Portland, Maine. Their experienced team supplies fully trained PTSD service dogs at no cost to the recipient. The nonprofit rescues shelters, trains them to be certified service dogs and then places them with suffering PTSD/TBI military Veterans. Their work is invaluable.  Our goal, through the race and various sponsorship opportunities, is generate enough funding to place 12 service dogs with 12 Veterans in need.

Approximately 1.7 million dogs are euthanized annually in the U.S. At the same time, more than 8,000 Veterans commit suicide, many of which have been suffering from PTSD (source: northedgek9.com)

We thought that there was no better place to host an animal run than Smiling Hill Farm, home to 25 kilometers of natural trails and an establishment that aims to respect and protect its animals while honoring ancestors by maintaining the land in a way that is sustainable for the future and sensitive to the environment.

In addition to the run, there will be pet activities, canine handling demonstrations, live music, pet and food vendors as well as a photographer doing family/pet photos against a fall scene background. After the race participants are encouraged to spend the day enjoying the farm.

Our event date is September 18th, and we’d love to invite you to be a part of it! The event will take place between 8am and 1p, and the race will begin at 9am.
