Emergency surgery is necessary for many life-threatening conditions or injuries, when a pet could be permanently injured or disfigured or when diagnosis and treatment are dependent upon exploratory procedures.  The MVMC Emergency and Specialty Departments share in their advanced capability and experience in emergency surgery.

Common conditions treated and procedures performed by the MVMC Emergency Department and Specialty Departments are:

  • Diaphragmatic Hernia
  • Rupture of hollow viscus
  • Obstructions
  • Acute abscess
  • Aortic and thrombosis injuries
  • Torsion of the intestine, spleen,  testes 
  • or stomach
  • Gastric dilatation / Volvulus (Bloat)
  • Ruptured intervertebral discs

  • Assisted and controlled ventilation
  • Surgical treatment for acute intestinal, urinary and biliary disorders
