Pet Loss Services

Grief doesn’t just start at the time a beloved pet dies. It can be felt long before and after death. Everyone deals with grief differently. Maine Veterinary Medical Center offers monthly Pet Loss Support Group Meetings to support families with end-of-life decisions, loss and sadness.

The PET LOSS SUPPORT GROUP meets the 4th Thursday of every month at 6:30 pm in the reception lobby.  Attendees will be guided upstairs to a private seated setting.

"The relationship with people and the animals in their lives is one of unconditional love and companionship. We open our lives, our homes and our hearts to these trusting beings in return for never-ending love and devotion. When our pets become ill or have reached the end of their life span, it is heart breaking. There are ways to make this new reality a bit easier for the person and pet involved... The reality is that this is the loss of a family member and should be handled as such." - Pet Chaplain and ordained interfaith Minister, Reverend Karen Orr.
