Dr. Potthoff, an Iowa native, began practicing veterinary medicine in Vermont at Brown Animal Hospital (26 years ago). After his neurology residency at ISU in 1988, Dr. Potthoff, his wife, daughters and son moved to Maine and founded The Animal Neurological Clinic while managing and working for the Animal Emergency Clinic for five years. The next 15 years, Dr. Potthoff concentrated the growth of the Animal Neurological Clinic of Portland. In December 2007 the opening of the newly constructed Maine Veterinary Referral Center became an exciting reality. In 2016 with twenty four hour emergency coverage, and critical care specialist integration, along with specialist in orthopedic/soft tissue, neurology/neurosurgery, internal medicine, and currently with oncology, ophthalmology, and critical care specialist, are renamed as a trauma center and The Maine Veterinary Medical Center. Dr Potthoff refreshes at his Harpswell oceanfront summer cottage and Gorham, Maine vacation land home.
