VETERINARY EXTERNSHIPS

Hands-on experience alongside expert veterinarians and veterinary technicians.

MVMC offers a veterinary student externship program. Veterinary externships are usually one-to four-week programs designed to give veterinary students (at an Accredited Veterinary School) hands-on learning experience in a particular area.  Externs are given the opportunity to rotate through services within the hospital of their choosing including:
  • Emergency
  • Critical Care
  • Surgery
  • Internal Medicine
  • Oncology
  • Ophthalmology
  • Cardiology
  • Radiology
  • Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine
MVMC is a busy private practice hospital with a high caseload that is a combination of referrals and first opinion, therefore, externs will get exposure to a depth and breadth of cases. Housing and transportation are not provided. Externship requests must be submitted at least 6 weeks in advance of the intended dates. For more information, please contact koparil@mvmc.vet.

VETERINARY TECHNICIAN EXTERNSHIPS

As a veterinary technician externship candidate, you have successfully completed all required coursework, including subjects such as pharmacology, animal diseases, and surgical anesthesia and monitoring.

During your externship, you’ll have the opportunity to apply your knowledge and skills by performing the duties of a licensed veterinary technician under the supervision of an LVT or veterinarian. While you’ve practiced these core skills throughout your training, this experience is designed to help you continue developing confidence and proficiency with the guidance, mentorship, and support of experienced professionals.

The goal of the externship is to help you transition smoothly into the veterinary field upon licensure—and your active participation and eagerness to learn will be key to your success.

VETERINARY INTERNSHIPS

MVMC also offers veterinary Internship programs. Please see descriptions and applications on the VIRMP website https://www.virmp.org/
