The Internal Medicine Service at MVMC is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the cardiac, respiratory, gastrointestinal, hepatic, renal, urogenital, endocrine, immune, and hematologic systems. Dr. Wagner, Dr. Rondeau, Dr. Diroff, and Dr. de Papp work closely with your family veterinarian to consult about your pet’s problems, and to determine a diagnostic and treatment plan. Your pet’s plan may include out-patient testing and treatment, or hospitalization for intensive treatment and monitoring at MVMC. Our Internal Medicine specialists are available for follow up appointments or for consults with your family veterinarian should questions or additional problems arise during your pet’s recovery.
The MVMC Internal Medicine Service provides diagnostic evaluation and treatment for the following conditions:
- Endocrine diseases including diabetes mellitus, Cushing’s disease, Addison’s disease, hyperthyroidism, and hypothyroidism
- Gastrointestinal diseases including inflammatory bowel disease, chronic vomiting or diarrhea, intestinal cancer, gastric and esophageal foreign bodies, megaesophagus, and pancreatitis
- Renal and urogenital diseases including acute and chronic kidney disease, urinary incontinence or obstruction, urinary tract infections, and glomerulonephritis
- Hepatic and biliary diseases including hepatic lipidosis, cholangiohepatitis, biliary obstruction, hepatic encephalopathy, and chronic hepatitis
- Immune-mediated and hematologic diseases including anemia, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, polycythemia, and polyarthropathy
- Infectious diseases including Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichiosis, Lyme disease, Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), fungal infections, and Leptospirosis
- Respiratory diseases including rhinitis, nasopharyngeal polyps, bronchitis, pneumonia, pleural effusion, and asthma

Common Conditions Evaluated
- Chronic or severe vomiting, diarrhea, swallowing disorders, chronic inappetence, weight loss
- Urinary incontinence, increased frequency of urination, increased thirst and urination, difficulty urinating, proteinuria
- Chronic nasal discharge, sneezing, snorting, coughing, difficulty breathing
- Anemia, clotting disorders
- Fever of unknown origin
- Icterus
- Distended abdomen, abdominal masses, abdominal fluid
- Increased liver enzymes, kidney values, hypercalcemia, hypoalbuminemia
- Neurologic signs due to metabolic conditions (liver shunt, liver failure, hypoglycemia, hypertension, etc.)
